"...intoxicating Spanish melodies and Latin rhythms..."
- JoMa Review
Celebrate Valentine's Day! Experience the intoxicating Spanish melodies and Latin rhythms of Romance de la Guitarra, a magical Valentine’s Concert. Internationally acclaimed guitarist Daniel Salazar will perform with his ensemble of international musicians and special guests: Puerto Rican guitarist Lorena Garay, vocalist Sylma Pagan, violinist Carin Wiesner and the Virtuosi Strings.
This special Valentine’s concert will include romantic and inspiring guitar selections, and will feature original music from Daniel Salazar’s highly popular repertoire combining elements of Flamenco, Latin and world rhythms, all with a classic Spanish guitar influence.
The concert will also include Daniel's newest compositions and other beautiful music such as Rodrigo’s Aranjuez, which is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful melodies ever written, the evocative Cavatina from the film “The Deer Hunter" and music from the film “Schindler’s List”. Additionally, Daniel will be performing exciting original arrangements of Latin American selections including Caballo Viejo from Venezuela and La Mucura from Colombia, featuring authentic instruments such as the Puerto Rican cuatro, the charango and zampoña from Chile, plus an array of Latin percussion.
Joining Daniel for this special event will be acclaimed guitarist Lorena Garay from Puerto Rico, Sylma Pagan, a vocalist with a beautifully expressive voice, and virtuoso violinist Carin Wiesner. The Daniel Salazar Ensemble features an outstanding group of internationally renowned musicians: drummer Richie Barshay, a native of West Hartford who also tours the world with jazz legend Herbie Hancock, bassist Luques Curtis, who has recently performed with Salsa legend Eddie Palmieri, Damian Curtis, an original member of the renowned group Insight on keyboards, Gonzalo Cortes from Chile who specializes in Andean flutes, Esteban Arrufat from Puerto Rico playing Latin Percussion, James Ackley who has performed throughout South America on trumpet, and Roberto Clavijo from Chile playing charango (Latin American string instrument), zampoña (panflute) and percussion.
Daniel Salazar’s style fuses the traditional Spanish guitar with contemporary and world music sounds as well as classical elegance. Known to Connecticut audiences for his highly popular Guitar Under the Stars concerts, this renowned musician has appeared in many prestigious international venues throughout the U.S., Latin America and Europe. Daniel has held the distinguished title of United States Artistic Ambassador, and currently serves as Artistic Director of the Connecticut Guitar Society.
