Considered the top selling Flamenco guitarist of all time, Liebert's passionate playing and infectious rhythms have been hailed by millions around the globe. Don't miss this intimate musical encounter with one of Flamenco's legendary performers. Ottmar Liebert composes, performs and records music in a Nouveau Flamenco style, which mixes elements of flamenco with jazz, bossa nova, and other genres. Seven of his albums have gone platinum and two other albums gold; he has also been nominated for a Grammy.
Ottmar Liebert said "flamenco is a music both romantic and dangerous; it is an attitude as much as it is a musical genre." Therein lies the philosophy that catapulted him to fame at the end of the '80s with an engaging mix of flamenco guitar and South American percussion, rock, jazz, and pop influences.
Liebert’s global success may develop naturally from his cultural background. Born in Cologne, Germany to a Chinese-German father and Hungarian mother, he began playing guitar at 11, and traveled extensively through Europe. After pursuing his Rock and Roll dreams, he played acoustic guitar in Santa Fe. His first recording, Nouveau Flamenco, received heavy radio airplay in Los Angeles and was re-released nationally in 1990. After his subsequent album Borrasca quickly climbed the charts, Liebert was picked up by a major label, Epic. With his exotic good looks and engaging stage presence, Liebert brings flamenco to mainstream America.
